Arnold Schoenberg was born into a lower middle-class Jewish family in the Leopoldstadt district (in earlier times a Jewish ghetto) of Vienna, at "Obere Donaustraße 5".His father Samuel, a native of Pressburg (now Bratislava), was a shoe-shopkeeper, and his mother Pauline Schoenberg (née Nachod), a native of Prague, was a piano teacher (Helm –).
Stravinsky’s interpretation of the differences and similarities between his and Schoenberg’s music reveals the most significant compositional techniques and aesthetical tendencies of both master composers in the twentieth century.
It is interesting that both these composers had so many technical similarities, since they inherited different musical backgrounds and traditions (Russian vs. Stravinsky and the Russian Period Sound and Legacy of a Musical Idiom.
